Frequently asked questions
Do you have a brochure?
Yes - please click
here.
Does the glass get hot?
Yes over time it does get hot but
not typically burning hot - after a while the glass panel starts to act like a radiator, giving out
heat in the same way.
Do I need a vent at the bottom?
If you have a real fire, this is recommended
to assist with the "draw". Otherwise, it is a matter of personal
preference.
Do you hold fire guards in stock?
Our fireguards are made to measure, so we do
not tend to hold stock. We do however keep a few of the most
common sizes - please look
here for details.
Can I look at some fire guards
before I buy?
You are welcome to visit our
workshop in Earlsfield, London SW18 BY APPOINTMENT ONLY please (please
see the Contact us page for
details and a map). Here you will be able to see a
selection of fire guards, and the various types of feet.
You
recommend that there is a gap between the top of the guard and the
surround - is there a technical reason for this?
No
it is just aesthetics - so choose whatever you prefer!
We would need a hand hold to be able to add logs when the fire is going,
would the hand hold become too hot to be able to do this?
No
it will get hot after a fair time but not burning hot.
What minimum distance do you recommend between a real fire and the
fire guard?
Generally 10 - 20cm but the key point is that flames do not touch the
glass.
Does the fire guard stop all the heat coming from the fire?
No - at first it cuts down the heat but quickly heats up then acts like
a nice warm radiator.
